Target audience for thrillers

 What is a target audience?

A target audience is a specific or particular group in which a film or movie is advertised too. So people may target cartoon films to a younger audience, or a horror film to older audiences such as 18-25. A target audience shares similar demographic traits such as:

• Age
• Gender
• Location
• Education

In film we can categorise audience through life-stage categories eg. Teens; Teens/singles/couples; those with young families; those with older families. We can also categorise audiences into attitude categories, for example: cinema enthusiasts; reluctant people, non-cinema goes or occasional visitors.

I think that thrillers have common themes including: violence, psychological issues. Due to these common themes I think that thriller target audiences are mainly adults. Younger audiences may struggle to understand these issues, and make it hard to understand the premise of the film.
